But where do you start? At the place where most users log in:
AFAS InSite.
Unfortunately, for many organisations, InSite is like the website your neighbour's son made 20 years ago: a hodgepodge of buttons and colours.
Fortunately, you can customise InSite to match your own house style. With one exception: the AFAS icons. There's nothing wrong with the AFAS symbols, at least not for AFAS itself.
But let that be the very thing that determines your look and feel.
But how do you create your own icons if you're not a designer?
And there's our secret!
How to create your own icons in just a few minutes, making AFAS users happy without any design knowledge.
Let's dive in!
Find your own AFAS Icons
First, you will collect the icons for your organisation. The AFAS icons themselves can be found in the Database, but they do not match your corporate identity. If you know where to look (and what to do), you can have your own complete set in no time.
- Visit the website Flaticon
- Use keywords that match the icon you are looking for, for example, “finance”.
- Find the style that suits you. Tip: you will find the rest of your set among the suggestions.
- Use the “Edit Icon” button to customise the icon to match your corporate identity. Not sure what your colour code is? Use a “Colour Picker” plugin in your browser.
- Download your icon in 256px. If necessary, you can reduce the file size via Compresspng or via TinyPNG if you like pandas).
Adding AFAS icons (correctly) to AFAS InSite
Time to add your icons to your InSite! We will do this differently than you may be used to: via the media gallery. The advantage of this is that you can manage your icons centrally. It saves you having to add individual images each time (and your colleagues can use them easily).
- Open Site Management → Go to the “Site” tab → Click on “Media Gallery”
- Click on “New”, upload your icon and provide a description.
Another tip: if you click on an added icon, you can see where the icon is placed on the website via “Show links”. You can also directly customise your icon for your entire InSite.
Adding your own icons to InSite is possible for everyone with these steps. Collect your icons and add them via the media gallery. No more need for Photoshop or a designer.
