“Is this really how it's going to look?”
Almost a year ago, I asked that when I saw the first images of the new Profit through a secret connection.
The time has come. You too will not escape the update to Profit 1 during this period.
And as with every update, I hear questions from customers – but now more than ever:
- What will this mean for us?
- What exactly do I need to know?
- What should I share within my organisation?
Valid questions – ones that I secretly had myself. Because where do you start with such a major update?
And where do you find the time to figure everything out?
Over the past few weeks, I have gathered all the information and experiences of our AFAS mentors about Profit 1.
These are the five most important changes you need to know about.
1. Spotlight
This is my personal favourite. It is the functionality that AFAS has copied from Apple.
The spotlight allows you to navigate directly to any section in Profit. No more searching through all the menus to find the right section. Simply open the spotlight, type in a few letters and press enter.
Utilise this functionality immediately. It will save you hours of time.
You can open the spotlight with Ctrl+space.
2. Zoom in/out
Because Profit 1 is much more modern, the components also have different sizes. This makes it much more pleasant to work with. However, as a user, you may find certain components too large or too small.
That is why it is important that you know how to zoom in and out.
You can zoom in and out using the icon in the top right corner. Then click on the – or + next to the percentage.

3. Hidden buttons in views
Profit 1 is much calmer and clearer. To achieve this, many buttons have been hidden from direct view.
That is why it is important that you know where to find these buttons:
All your (self-made) views at the top left:

Direct actions within the display under “Actions” at the top left:

Other actions for the display (such as advanced filter and totaliser) at the top right:

4. New Profit Communication Centre (PCC)
Every update is important, but this one is especially so. The old Profit Communication Centre will no longer work with this update.
So ensure that everyone has a new Profit Communication centre. This you can find it here back.
5. Small optimisations with a big impact
Finally, there are smaller optimisations with a big impact. According to our mentors, these are the four most important ones:
- All leave balances are now displayed in the Pocket App. This means that as an employee, you no longer need to visit InSite.
- The screens for salary processing have been improved. Watch this video for the complete overview.
- Conditions take a lot of time to set up. From now on, you can copy them.
- When there are changes to job roles, schedules, or salaries, you can now specify preferred values. This is an additional reason to allow employees to initiate these changes themselves.
Was that it?
Yes! The focus of this update is on the modernisation of Profit. It is important that you are aware of the most significant changes.
In each update, AFAS implements a multitude of changes. But it is more important that you know what the mountain looks like than that you climb it straight away.
In practice, this means that you go through the most important changes. And that is exactly what we have done now!
You don't have to worry that you'll never see the other optimisations again. AFAS neatly lists the latest updates for each component in the documentation.
But then one question remains: What should I share with my colleagues?
I have a simple solution for that: share the link to this article via WhatsApp or email.
